My Tormenting Enemy

While a few months pregnant in Paris, I decide to investigate my aquaphobia. I return home to Cameroon to see my mother and sister, who are also afraid of water, in order to find the origin of our affliction. I travel up the Lobé River, on the Cameroonian coast, to meet a sand miner and two traditional chiefs who have a deep and mystical connection with the water. Together, we contrast beliefs, the visible world with the invisible, and psychoanalysis.
